Success for Women in Construction.

"I have always had an interest in architecture and construction. While working at a pet store, and taking some drafting and architecture classes in college, I befriended the superintendent on a nearby construction jobsite. He allowed me to watch, ask questions, and photograph the progress of the job. I learned everything from grading, to foundation to framing and roofing.

Soon after, I got a job on a small housing tract as a laborer cleaning the finished houses and readied them for sale. I got to see firsthand each trade, and the electricians' job seemed the most interesting to me. So I asked around and found out they had a school for electricians. In 1995 I joined the IBEW Union Electrical Apprenticeship Training Program. I completed five years of school while working and received on the job training. In 2000 I took my Journeyman's license test and finished my schooling.

My first foreman job I ran was a three story hotel in Reno called Extended Stay America where I had a crew of 10 guys. After I finished that, I went to work for Briggs Electric in Carson City. I ran a job called Eagle Medical Center which was a 3-story Medical Office Building as well as all the TI build outs for each medical clinic in the building.

I came to Kona on a diving vacation with my mom in May of 2003, and by November of that same year I moved here. I worked in the field on a few custom homes along the Kohala Coast while I studied to get my Hawaii contractor's license.

I feel my strong suits are my organizational and time management abilities. I have a vision for the company and set goals accordingly."

Providing Solutions for Customers Needs

"I started in the trades at the age of 19 wiring track houses with my uncle in Southern California. In 1983 I moved back to Nevada to begin my family and eventually land a job with Willis Electric where I worked for the next 15 years. My first project with them was a 200,000 s.f. warehouse and offices for Hardy Irrigation.

During that time I went to school through the ABC Electrical Apprenticeship Program, where my extensive education in electrical installation, as well as drafting, lead me to begin drawing all the electrical plans for Willis. Ultimately I took on all the estimating and drafting while continuing to work in the field.

Eventually I reached a stopping point with Willis and chose to move my career along with a large union electrical shop in Carson City where my job responsibilities included estimating and project management. There I learned the techniques of a high level construction company.

I first visited Kona on a vacation for my 40th birthday, and fell in love with Hawaii. I met Kristy while working with her in Reno on the medical building that I project managed, and accepted her offer to move to Kona and start an electrical contracting business.

I moved to Kona on September 30th, 2004, and October 1st was our first job installing a 400AMP service and a walk-in cooler for a warehouse at the airport. How exciting! I stepped off the plane, and we were in business!

Since then I have estimated many projects from small electrical installs, then to custom homes, and on to commercial and government jobs.

I feel my strong suits are my ability to listen to customers and owners needs and come up with solutions that provide them with quality service and the results they desire."
